The New Canaan Rams picked up a point in their pursuit of higher seeding for the upcoming FCIAC and state boys ice hockey playoffs on Wednesday night.

However, that single point, coming in a 1-1 tie against Division III contender Westhill, didn’t sit well with the Rams, who were no doubt expecting a better outcome at the Darien Ice Rink.

“Even though it was a tie, I feel like it was a loss,” head coach Pat Gore said. “They were the better team, they out-played us. February is not the right time of the year to be out-worked by anybody, regardless of who you’re playing and regardless of whether it’s regular season, FCIACs or states. If you get out-worked this time of the year, you’re going home.”

DARIEN -- For two teams, a tie can mean a lot of different things.

Westhill, a Division III team considers Wednesday night's 1-1 final at New Canaan a victory, while the Division I Rams look at it as an step back in their postseason hunt.

"We're a blue collar team," Westhill coach John Santagata said. "We work hard day in and day out; I have no all-stars or snipers out here. My goalie was fantastic tonight, he played unbelievable up until the very last second, but that's our game, we always work hard and don't give up. This is like a win for us."
